The King University baseball team opened their season with a pair of exciting wins over regional rival UVA Wise on Saturday afternoon. Drew Moore allowed one hit for the Tornado in a 1-0 game victory while Junior Renwick came up with a walk-off double in the eighth inning to give King a 2-1 game two victory.

SERIES HIGHLIGHTS

  • Renwick went 2-for-4 in game two with two runs batted in while Truman Roper went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in game two.
  • Wes Bonney and Davis Hall accounted for hits for the Tornado in game one with Bonney driving in Chase Hilliard.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Moore faced the minimum through three innings as he picked off the lone base runner for the Cavaliers.
  • He only allowed two baserunners through five innings before the Cavaliers posted their first hit with one out in the sixth inning, a one-out double.
  • However, Moore got a strikeout and fly out to end the threat.
  • Moore was nearly matched pitch-by-pitch by Daniel Kanagy who only allowed one hit through four innings.
  • The one hit was a Davis Hall double that started the second inning, but Hall was stranded in the inning.
  • Hilliard worked a two-out walk in the fifth inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
  • He then scored on a Bonney double to left field, giving King the 1-0 lead.
  • After working out of the sixth, Moore retired the side in order in the seventh inning for his first complete game of the season as King came away with the 1-0 victory.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • UVA Wise loaded the bases in the second inning, but Christian Walzak induced a groundout to end the threat and keep the game scoreless.
  • The first two hitters for the Tornado in the bottom of the second reached base, but were stranded there.
  • The Cavaliers grabbed the lead in the fifth inning as Nick Badgett started the frame with a double and later scored on a Jeb Hurst single to right center.
  • Walzak got out of the inning, stranding a pair of runners and keeping the King deficit at 1-0.
  • The top of the Tornado offense responded in the sixth inning as Roper started the frame with a double and later scored on a Renwick single to even the score.
  • Both teams stranded a runner in the seventh, but were unable to score as the contest went to extra innings.
  • Michael Cordova retired the Cavaliers in order in the eighth before the top of the order struck again for the Tornado.
  • Roper started the frame with a double and Preston Steele walked to bring Renwick back to the plate.
  • Renwick ripped a double down the left field line that scored Roper and gave King the 2-1 victory.
