Northeast State Community College hosts Digital Literacy courses made possible by a grant awarded to the Kingsport Senior Center.

The funds — awarded by the West End Home Foundation and the Senior Trust Consortium — allow members of the senior center to register for the class, which are held every Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the College’s newly built Technical Education Complex.

Technologies Division Coordinator Ray Acker said that 25 seniors have taken the class so far, and attendees receive a Lenovo Chromebook thanks to grant funds awarded to the Kingsport Senior Center.

To register for the class, you must be a member of the Kingsport Senior Center.

“We have a total of three sessions, with six classes in each session,” Acker said. “The classes are held every Friday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. We have completed one session and have begun our second.”

The course educates seniors about internet connectivity, password security, how to detect and avoid phishing emails, common scam practices and other online safety topics.
