The top-ranked King University women's wrestling team faced the University of Mount Olive in their first home competition of the season. The Tornado defeated Mount Olive 39-5 with five pins and one technical.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • King took a pair of forfeit wins at 101 and 109 pounds before rolling off three straight pins.
  • Top-ranked Samara Chavez pinned Gracie Cordasco in 1:43 at 116 pounds and eighth-ranked Melanie Mendoza pinned Jillian Timberlake in 18 seconds at 123 pounds.
  • At 130 pounds, third-ranked Montana DeLawder pinned Isabel Rodriguez in 1:29.
  • Sixth-ranked Viktorya Torres then took a 10-0 techinical fall over Chloe Lawler at 136 pounds before another Tornado pin.
  • In her first action of the season, Ashlynn Ortega pinned Skyler Smith in 2:23.
  • Following a Tornado forfeit, second-ranked Chey Bowman pinned Aleksandra Bieszazad in 15 seconds.
  • Ther was a double forfeit at 191 pounds as King took the dual 39-5.
UP NEXT

  • King is in action again on Sunday at the Tornado Open. The tournament starts at 10:00 a.m. in the Student Center Complex.
  • Mount Olive returns to the mat again on January 22 at the Robert Horton Memorial.
