King University ranked atop NWCA tournament and dual rankings

The King University women's wrestling team stayed atop the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll in the latest set of rankings. The Tornado have 13 individuals ranked including three that are ranked No. 1. King also moved up one spot in the dual rankings leading in to the NWCA National Duals on Friday and Saturday.

In the tournament poll, King amassed 104 points to remain in the top spot with 13 individuals ranked. King stays ahead of North Central College who is ranked second with 14 ranked individuals. King and North Central are the only two schools to have at least 10 individuals ranked.

In the dual rankings, King moved up one spot, surpassing North Central. Both squads will be in action this Friday and Saturday at the NWCA National Duals. The Tornado are the defending champions as King won their sixth duals championship last season.

Sage Mortimer moves up to the top spot at 109 pounds after winning tournaments in back-to-back weeks. She first won the highly competitive North Central Open by defeating then No. 1 Sydney Petzinger of North Central in the championship bout. She then won the Wasps Open. She is now 19-0 on the season.

Samara Chavez moves up to No. 1 at 116 pounds following a pair of tournament championships. She first won the North Central Open defeating then No. 1 Jaslynn Gallegos of North Central in the championship match. She then tied for the crown at the Wasps Open. She is now 16-0 on the season.

Ana Luciano stayed atop the 143-pound rankings following tournament championships at the North Central Open and Wasps Open. Luciano is now 11-0 on the season. At the North Central Open she defeated third-ranked Katie Lange of Augsburg University in the championship bout.

At 101 pounds, Jessica Corredor moved up to second and Avery Kibelbek jumped to fourth in the latest rankings. Corredor won the North Central Open while Kibelbek won the Wasps Open a week after finishing runner-up at the North Central Open. Kibelbek defeated then fourth-ranked Samantha Miller of Presbyterian College to win the Wasps Open. Kibelbek is now 13-2 on the season while Corridor owns a 9-2 mark.

Along with Mortimer at 109 pounds, Dianna Holmes is ranked third following a third-place finish at the North Central Open and runner-up finish at the Wasps Open. At the North Central Open she topped fifth-ranked Kenra Ryan of North Central. Holmes is now 14-4 on the season.

Danielle Garcia joins Chavez in the rankings at 116 pounds as she is ranked third. She is now 7-1 on the season following a third-place finish at the North Central Open and shared title at the Wasps Open. At the North Central Open she topped eighth-ranked Amaya Yoshizumi of North Central twice, including in the third-place match.

At 123 pounds, Vayle-Rae Baker is ranked fourth while Melanie Mendoza is ranked eighth. Baker is now 17-1 on the season following a runner-up finish at the North Central Open and championship at the Wasps Open. Mendoza is 14-5 on the season following fourth-place finish at the North Central Open and runner-up finish at the Wasps Open.

Montana DeLawder is ranked third at 130 pounds with an 18-3 record on the season. She won the Wasps Open and finished fifth at the North Central Open.

Viktorya Torres is ranked sixth at 136 pounds with a 14-3 record. She finished runner-up at the Wasps Open and third at the North Central Open.

At 155 pounds, Tiffani Baublitz is ranked fifth while Chey Bowman is ranked second at 170 pounds. Baublitz is 14-3 on the season as finished fourth at the North Central Open and runner-up at 170 pounds at the Wasps Open. Bowman is 11-0 on the season after winning the Wasps Open where she defeated teammate Baublitz in the championship match.
