Northeast State Police Officers Kelvin Kimbler, Olivia Sapp, and Raymond Torres participated in the Elizabethton Police Department's Shop-with-a-Cop event on Dec. 5.
Children and families were selected by local school systems to participate in a pizza party at Elizabethton High School and a shopping trip to Wal-Mart with area law enforcement officers.
According to the Elizabethton Star, the event, which benefitted 67 students from Carter County and Elizabethton elementary, middle, and high schools, provided each child with $150 to spend on anything they wanted for Christmas. Students also received a $50 food box to take home after their shopping spree ended.
Officer Torres arranged the participation of NE State officers. Officers Kimbler, Sapp, and Torres--after finishing their shifts--volunteered their time to help.
"I have spoken with each of the officers, and all have had nothing but good things to say about the event and stated that they would definitely be willing to participate again," said NE State Police Chief Brian Johnson. "All of the officers stated multiple agencies were glad to see them there and invited the department back next year to participate."
Thanks to Officers Kimbler, Sapp, and Torres for going above and beyond to serve the community.
