Northeast State Community College Big Son Band Plays Northeast State July 28

074e

If you’ve ever heard the phrase “mountain soul” and wondered what it meant, the Big Son Band answers the question.

Northeast State’s “Hot Nights, Cool Music” summer concert series welcomes Big Son to perform Thursday evening, July 28 at the Regional Performing Arts Center Theater on the Blountville campus next to Tri-Cities Airport. The concert is free and open to the public. The performance begins at 7:00 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

Big Son is a fresh take on old Soul music, with a smidge of southern accents thrown in for good measure.  Comprised of five guys with decades of experience on stages throughout the South, the band takes pride in crafting songs and shows that leave the audience wanting more.

To handle a mix of genres, from New Orleans soul to songs about love and loss, songwriter and singer Jared Bentley has surrounded himself with the right mixture of musicianship. A solid rhythm section of Mike Sams and Kevin Light sets the canvas and the painters, Jerry Henninger and Cepheus Strachan, lay their color down.
