Trump made it clear that this practice would no longer be accepted in America. “When her girls’ volleyball match was invaded by a male, he smashed the ball so hard in Payton’s face, causing traumatic brain injury … ending her athletic career,” Trump said, highlighting the story of Payton McNabb.
A recent New York Times poll indicates that 79% of Americans agree with Trump’s stance on this issue. The president has signed an executive order preventing men from competing in women’s sports. However, Trump stressed the need for congressional action to codify this order into law to ensure its permanence.
The House passed legislation supporting Trump’s position, but a companion bill failed in the Senate due to lack of Democratic support. Diana Harshbarger, who represents Tennessee’s 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, expressed disappointment at this outcome and reiterated her support for legislation ensuring women compete only against other women.
Harshbarger emphasized that common sense should prevail over what she described as “madness” and praised Trump’s leadership on this issue.
