Republican Representative Diana Harshbarger from Tennessee has announced the reintroduction of the Pregnancy.gov Act. The bill aims to establish a website offering various pregnancy and post-natal resources, including adoption information, tax preparation assistance, and domestic violence services. This platform will provide these resources based solely on users’ zip codes.
The proposed website, named Pregnancy.gov, is designed to operate at no additional cost to the government. It will consolidate existing private and public resources from local, state, and federal levels into one comprehensive platform for women seeking support. Users will only need to input their zip code to access available resources.
Co-sponsoring this initiative are Republican Representatives Brian Babin and Dan Crenshaw from Texas, Rich McCormick from Georgia, Sheri Biggs from South Carolina, and Scott Fitzgerald from Wisconsin.
According to a press release from Harshbarger’s office: “Nearly 88% of women who had abortions in 2022 were unmarried.” The statement continues by emphasizing that mothers facing unexpected pregnancies may worry about obtaining support during pregnancy and after childbirth. “No mother should ever have to feel alone.”
