Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger (TN-01) issued the following statement announcing the 2023 Congressional App Challenge for students in Tennessee's First Congressional District:

"The STEM field is growing faster than ever and it is crucial that we prepare today's students for the future," said Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger. "The Congressional App Challenge is a unique opportunity for students in Tennessee's 1st District to showcase their innovation and coding abilities, and develop their skills for a career in STEM by creating an application (or "app") for platforms such as a smart phone, tablet, desktop, or other devices. I look forward to seeing the talent of students in East Tennessee on display!"

Any programming language, such as C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, or "block code" is acceptable. A student or team may only submit one app entry and can register as an individual or as a team of up to four eligible students. An app coded after November 1, 2022, is an eligible entry. Students must be enrolled in middle school or high school to participate. Participants may create and submit their own app for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice. A full list of rules is available here.

Students are encouraged to register online before submitting their completed app by November 1, 2023. Full details about the contest can be found on Congresswoman Harshbarger's website or on the Congressional App Challenge website.
