Peyton Day of the King University softball team has been rewarded for her efforts last week by being named Conference Carolinas Player of the Week. This is the first career weekly honor for the senior from Oak Ridge, N.C.
Last week, Day batted ,714, with five hits, three doubles and four RBI in a doubleheader sweep over Shepherd. She was 3-for-5 in the first game, with two doubles and a pair of RBI that turned out to be clutch in a 13-12 victory. In the second game of the doubleheader, she was 2-for-3, with two RBI and another double.
Day is batting .347 this season, with seven doubles and eight RBI, along with one successful stolen base. The seven doubles leads the conference, and ranks 14th in NCAA Division II this season.
The Tornado will be back on the diamond March 7, when they face Concord in a road matchup. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for1 p.m. from Athens, W.Va.
