On Friday, 14 new associates from J.A. Street & Associates General Contractors joined the group apprenticeship program at Northeast State Community College.
All the new apprentices are project managers at J.A. Street and will enter the construction superintendent program. The new agreement is the first leadership apprenticeship at RCAM.
The new J.A. Street apprentices are Dennis Brickey, Kevin Alley, Roger Alley, Jr., Matthew Hatcher, Peter Horton, Adam Killian, Andrew Leach, Mitchell Lewis, Chris Miller, Trevor Sampson, Erick Sampson, Lawson Sizemore, Mason Sizemore, and Nick Willis.
The J.A. Street employees will attend training one Friday a month for an entire year.
Instruction is based on National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) curriculum, which focuses on construction materials and methods, mathematics, communications, safety, human resources, scheduling, and customer service.
Greg Williams, an electromechanical lab instructor at RCAM, will direct the training.
Northeast State and RCAM worked with the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to create the Group Registered Apprenticeship Program in 2017. These registered group apprenticeship programs use DOL standards, which provide certification for more than 1,000 occupations.
As a registered apprenticeship sponsor, RCAM can construct DOL-guided training for companies of any size.
This training is a valuable educational asset for smaller companies and entrepreneurs that might not otherwise be able to offer or sustain an apprenticeship program.
