The King University women's wrestling team has gotten off to a solid start this season and the Tornado remained ranked second in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) rankings. King has 12 individuals ranked, the most out of any team in the poll.
For the second straight poll, the Tornado are second behind North Central College. King had 85 points while North Central earned 97 points. Colorado Mesa University (77 points), McKendree University (70 points) and Augsburg University (51 points) round out the top five. King (12), North Central (11) and Colorado Mesa (10) were the only schools with at least 10 individuals ranked.
King has two individuals ranked at four weight classes, starting with 101 pounds. Jessica Corredor and Avery Kibelbek break into the rankings and fourth and sixth, respectively. Corredor is 6-2 on the season with three wins by technical fall while Kibelbek is 6-1 with three wins by pin.
At 109 pounds, Sage Mortimer is ranked second and Dianna Holmes is ranked third. Mortimer won titles at the East Stroudsburg Open and Eagles Madness and owns a 10-0 record with six wins by technical fall and two by pin. Holmes owns a 7-2 record with six technical falls and one pin.
The Tornado do of Samara Chavez and Danielle Garcia are ranked second and third at 116 pounds, respectively. Chavez owns titles at the East Stroudsburg Open and Eagle Madness with a record of 8-0. She has two wins over ranked opponents, four by technical fall and three via pin. Garcia Is 3-1 on the season with two wins by pin.
Vayle-Rae Baker moves up one spot to fourth at 123 pounds. She owns titles at the East Stroudsburg and Eagle Madness and has an 8-0 record with three wins by technical fall.
Montana DeLawder moves from fifth to second at 130 pounds with her 8-1 record on the season. She won the East Stroudsburg Open and finished third at Eagle Madness. Six if her wins are via pin.
The King tandem of Ana Luciano and Viktorya Torres are ranked second and fifth at 143 pounds, respectively. Luciano is 3-0 on the season with three wins by technical fall, all coming at the East Stroudsburg Open where she finished first. Torres is 5-1 on the season, finishing second at the East Stroudsburg Open and winning Eagle Madness. She owns two wins by technical fall and two more by pin.
Tiffani Baublitz moves up one spot to fifth at 155 pounds. She is 7-0 on the season with titles at the East Stroudsburg Open and Eagle Madness. She has three wins by pin and another by technical fall this season.
At 170 pounds, Chey Bowman stays ranked third with a 6-0 record. She owns titles at the East Stroudsburg Open and Eagle Madness with three wins by pin and two by technical fall.
King is in action again on November 30 in their first dual of the season, coming at Emory & Henry College at 6:00 p.m.
