King University Tornado fall at Emmanuel

The King University women's volleyball team took to the road to face one of the top teams in Conference Carolinas, Emmanuel College. The Lions used a strong offensive attack to hand King a 3-0 defeat.

THE BASICS

FINAL SCORE: Emmanuel 3, King 0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-20)

LOCATION: Student Center Complex; Bristol, Tenn.

RECORDS: King 10-12, 5-6 Conference Carolinas; Emmanuel 16-7, 10-1 Conference Carolinas

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Set

  • Emmanuel used a 6-1 run to take a 9-3 lead and force a King timeout.
  • The run continued for the Lions as the Tornado took another timeout trailing 15-5.
  • King couldn't recover as Emmanuel took the first set 25-10 behind a .533 attack percentage and eight kills from Alaina Emminger.
Second Set

  • King held the advantage early, but the Lions used a 9-2 run, including five straight to take a 15-10 lead and force a Tornado timeout.
  • Emmanuel then used a 7-2 run to extend their lead to 22-13 and force King to take another timeout.
  • The Lions hit .357 en route to the 25-17 victory.
Third Set

  • Emmanuel jumped out to an 8-3 lead, but the Tornado battled back and evened the score at 14 on a kill from Bailey Fersner.
  • King later took a 17-15 lead, forcing an Emmanuel timeout.
  • However, the Lions came back and evened the score, but King responded with back-to-back points, the first on a kill from Chloe Clayton.
  • After consecutive Emmanuel points evened the score at 20, King called for a timeout.
  • The Lion offense continued out of the break, scoring the final five points to take the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Abigale Jayne led King with seven kills while Kara Miller recorded four blocks, one solo.
  • Claire Wilson led the back row with 15 digs while Katie Harless handed out 14 assists.
FOR THE FOES

  • The Lions hit .356 as a team in the win.
  • Emminger led Emmanuel with 16 kills and .343 attack percentage.
  • Emily Hanson added 13 kills for the Lions.
  • Gabrielle McGlamery handed out 39 assists while Asia Queen recorded 14 digs.
  • Layla Bland added 12 digs.
UP NEXT

  • King stays on the road to take on Southern Wesleyan University at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
  • Emmanuel hosts North Greenville University on Saturday afternoon.
