King University falls to Barton

Kenneth Walton scored his sixth goal of the season, but the King University men's soccer team fell to Conference Carolinas foe Barton 3-1 on a windy day at Parks Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tornado were on the attack early, as Walton and Campbell Moore both recorded shots on goal in the 14th minute, but both were stopped by the Barton goalkeeper.
  • After another shot on goal by Walton that was saved, the Bulldogs got a run on the other end of the field and were able to convert, taking a 1-0 lead.
  • The Tornado were again on the attack in the 28th minute, getting back-to-back corner kicks that led to a shot on goal from Joshua Bessinger.
  • Barton would get a corner kick in the final minute of the half, but were unable to convert, and went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
  • Walton needed just seven minutes in the second half to even the score, as Erick Manirakiza found Walton, who converted for his sixth goal of the season.
  • The Bulldogs took the lead back in the 67th minute before adding a third goal in the 68th minute to go up 3-1.
  • Weston Joyner would take a shot on goal in the 70th minute, but that would be the last of the Tornado offense.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • In addition to his goal, Walton had three shots on goal while playing the full 90 minutes.
  • Joyner, Bessinger and Moore also had shots on goal.
  • Jack Hyatt made three saves while playing 68 minutes in net, with Collin Teperino playing 21 minutes in goal.
FOR THE FOES

  • Blake Grove had two of the three goals for the Bulldogs, with Peer Brendler picking up the third goal.
  • Steingrimur Gunnarsson played the full 90 minutes in net, making five saves.
UP NEXT

  • The Tornado will return to action Wednesday afternoon against Converse.
  • Barton is also at home Wednesday, hosting Francis Marion.
