Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger has opened the application process for military service academy nominations. The program provides an opportunity for students to attend a U.S. service academy, which requires a commitment to serve in the military for at least five years after graduation.
“As a member of Congress, I have the distinct privilege to nominate the deserving students of East Tennessee,” stated Rep. Harshbarger. “It is a profound honor to serve to protect the freedom of this great nation and I am thrilled to help students in East Tennessee pursue this noble dream.”
Members of Congress can nominate candidates for four out of five U.S. service academies:
– U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, New York
– U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, Maryland
– U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, Colorado
– The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, New York
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut does not require congressional nominations.
Eligibility requirements include being a U.S. citizen aged 17 to 23 and residing within Tennessee’s First Congressional District.
Applications are due by 11:59 p.m., October 31, 2025. Students interested in applying can find more information and submit their applications online through Rep. Harshbarger’s website.
